BIBLE READING:    MATHEWS マタイによる福音書  22:36-39

Greeting to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, once again I welcome you in the house of the lord.

私たちの主イエス・キリストの御名によって、皆さまにご挨拶申し上げます。

主の宮に、よくいらっしゃいました。

My name is CHISANGA NEWTON and I was born in 1990.  I am a Christian by religion and married to one wife who like me is a Zambian by nationality. 

私の名前はチサンガ・ニュートンで、1990年生まれです。私はキリスト教を信仰しており、同じザンビア人の妻がいます。

Zambia is a country located in the central part of Southern Africa with a population of  about 21million people. An interesting fact is it it’s constitution Zambia states that while it respects freedom of Religion, It is a Christian Nation.  This was first declared on December 29th, 1991 by the second president of the Republic, Dr. FREDERICK CHILUBA.

ザンビアは南部アフリカの中央部に位置し、人口は約2100万人います。興味深いことに、ザンビアの憲法には「信教の自由を尊重しつつも、キリスト教国家である。」と記されています。これは1991年12月29日、2代目の大統領フレデリック・チルバ氏によって初めて宣言されました。

For this reason, Zambian societal rules and life in general uphold Christian principles in all aspects of life. Zambia is also blessed with many natural resources ranging from precious stones like copper, gold, diamonds to the natural wild animals and the natural forest with 20% of land being utilised for agriculture activities.

そのため、ザンビアの社会ルールや、生活全般の様々な場面でキリスト教の教えが尊重されています。

また、ザンビアは銅、金、ダイヤモンドといった貴重な石から、野生動物や森林に至るまで、多くの天然資源に恵まれており、土地の20％が農業用地として利用されています。

In my daily life, my work in the community involves supporting agriculture activities.  In order to do even better work, for this reason I am came to ARI so that I can learn more skills, especially in organic farming methods in order to support my community.

普段、私はコミュニティでの農業支援を行っています。より良い働きを目指し、より多くの技術、特に有機農法について学び、コミュニティを支えることができるようになるために、アジア学院に来ました。

 After leaving ARI, I will go back to my community and use the skills I have learned here as a tool to especially fight against climate change in not only my country which threatened by it but to the whole world for our mother earth is threatened now by climate change.

アジア学院を卒業したら、地元に戻り、ここで学んだ技術を、気候変動に脅かされている自国だけでなく、私たちの母なる地球のために、全世界で気候変動と闘うための手段として用いていきたいと願っています。

Allow me by start reading the gospel of Mathew chapter 22:36-39, the bible reads.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law? 37 Jesus replied: love the lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind; 38 this is the greatest commandment.39 and the second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself. 40 the whole law of Moses and the teaching of prophets depend on these two commandments.”

始めに本日の聖書箇所を読ませていただきます。マタイによる福音書22章36節から40節です。

「先生、律法の中で、どの掟が最も重要でしょうか。」 イエスは言われた。「『心を尽くし、精神を尽くし、思いを尽くして、あなたの神である主を愛しなさい。』これが最も重要な第一の掟である。第二も、これと同じように重要である。『隣人を自分のように愛しなさい。』 律法全体と預言者は、この二つの掟に基づいている。」

My brothers and sisters, let’s start today by understanding when in the bible the word love was mentioned?

The first time it was mentioned was when the Lord told Abraham that take your son whom you LOVE, Issac, and go to the region of Moriah.  Sacrifice him as a bunt offering on the mountain that I will show you. This is found in Genesis chapter 22:2.

兄弟姉妹の皆さん、本日はまず、聖書の中で愛という言葉が出てくる箇所を見てみることから始めましょう。

愛という言葉が最初に出てきたのは、主がアブラハムに、「あなたの息子、あなたの愛する独り子イサクを連れて、モリヤの地に行きなさい。わたしが命じる山の一つに登り、彼を焼き尽くす献げ物としてささげなさい。」と命じられる箇所です。

これは創世記22章2節に書かれています。

The second time the word love was used that I want to introduce is in the gospel of john chapter 3 verse 16.   It reads , for God so  LOVED the world that he gave his only son, that everyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

もう一つ、愛について述べている箇所として、私がご紹介したいのは、ヨハネの福音書 3章16節にある「神は、その独り子をお与えになったほどに、世を愛された。独り子を信じる者が一人も滅びないで、永遠の命を得るためである。」という御言葉です。

Our main focus today will be on why this word LOVE is mentioned several times to different generations of human kind?
As you may know, there is a great span of time from the time of Abraham to that of Jesus Christ.  These two are from different generation.  What is God telling us by repeating this word at different times?

本日、特に注目したいのは、なぜこの「愛する」という言葉が、人類のさまざまな世代にわたって、何度も言及されているのか、ということです。
お分かりのように、アブラハムの時代からイエス・キリストの時代まで、大きな時間の隔たりがあり、二人の生きた時代はまったく違います。異なる時代に、この言葉を繰り返すことによって、神様は私たちに何を語りかけているのでしょうか。

According to the book of second john:1:6 ,,, love means doing that which God has commanded us ..and in the case of 2^nd John, he commands us to love one another deeply because love covers over many sins..

ヨハネの手紙第二1章6節によれば、愛とは神が私たちに命じられたことを行うことです。神は私たちに、互いに深く愛し合うように命じておられます。それは愛によって多くの罪を乗り越えることができるからです。

So what does love look like? We can understand this by looking at the fruits of love:  In Christian principles ,, the Bible says that love means   -   patience  - kindness to one another – forgiveness.   - tolerance towards one another, compassion – that is understanding one another.

では、愛とはどのようなものでしょうか。

それは愛の結ぶ実を見ればわかります。キリスト教の原則では、聖書は、愛とは - 忍耐すること - 互いに親切にすること - 赦すこと - 互いに寛容であること - 思いやること、つまり互いに理解し合うことです。

If this is what love is, then I believe you would agree with me that this word Love, this ancient word love, is the only foundation of a Christian life and community. 
これが愛であるならば、この愛という言葉、このいにしえからの愛という言葉こそが、クリスチャンとしての生活やコミュニティのただ一つの基盤であることに、皆さんも同意していただけると思います。

If this is love, think about what the absence of love would be. 

Isn’t it hatred, which gives birth to conflicts and we know that peace cannot exist in the presence of conflict and  I know that innocent people will be displeased and live without hope for the future in that state.  

これが愛であるならば、愛がない場合を考えてみてください。

それは憎しみではないでしょうか。争いを生むのは憎しみであり、争いのあるところに平和が存在するはずがありません。そのような状態では罪のない人々が不幸になり、将来に希望を持てずに生きることになるのは明らかです。

My brother and sisters, today GOD is reminding all of us to be people who love so that we can live in harmony with our people in our communities with peace..

兄弟姉妹の皆さん、今日、神は、私たちが平和のうちにコミュニティの人々と調和して生きるために、愛する者となることを、思い起こさせてくださっています。

By doing so we will not only create a world of peace ,,but also will show obedience to our Lord’s commandments which are the guiding rules for  every Christian who has lived before and is living today,  and the ones who will live in  the days to come.

If our God is the God of peace, the God of patience, the God of kindness ,the God of compassion and the God of love, then shouldn’t we be the same if we are to be obedient?

そうすることによって、私たちは平和な世界を築くだけでなく、過去、現在、そして未来を生きるすべての信仰者の指針となる掟である、主の戒めに従うことを示すことができるのです。

私たちの神が平和の神、忍耐の神、優しさの神、憐れみの神、愛の神であるならば、私たちもその方に従順であるべきではないでしょうか？

 

My brothers and sisters in Christ, allow me to give an example of what love can bring to our communities by sharing a short example from my country, Zambia. 
愛が私たちのコミュニティに何をもたらすことができるのかについて、私の国、ザンビアでの短い事例を、皆さんにご紹介したいと思います。

I can say that Zambia is one of the countries in Africa who have had a long lasting peace with no history of conflict since our independence from Britain in 1964. 
ザンビアは、1964年にイギリスから独立して以来、アフリカで紛争の歴史がなく、平和が長く続いている国のひとつだと言えます。

We have become a home for refugees from other countries.  In fact there are three large settlements :namely ..mayukwayukwa, maheba and mantapala.
These settlements are located in various provinces of Zambia and have hosted refugees from many countries over the years, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola…
私たちは他国からの難民を受け入れており、マユクワユクワ、マヘバ、マンタパラという3つの大きな居住区があります。

これらの居住区はザンビアの様々な州にあり、コンゴ民主共和国やアンゴラを含む、多くの国からの難民を長年受け入れてきました。

I believe that as a country, our hosting of people in need is truly a gesture that is not possible if we do not share love to one another, especially to those who are in need the most.

国を挙げて、困っている人々を受け入れることは、私たちが互いに、特に最も必要としている人々に愛を分かち合わなければできない行為だと私は信じています。

As we conclude this reflection for today, I want us to do a very practical thing together.  Let’s be an example of love by telling our neighbour, yes the ones sitting next to you .. I LOVE YOU.., Wait not yet.  

今日のこの話を終えるにあたり、とても実践的なことを共に行ってみたいと思います。  隣人に、そう、あなたの隣に座っている人に、「愛しています」と言うことで、愛の模範になりましょう。まだですよ。

And when you do, observe for sure how the facial expression of  your neighbour will be a BIG SMILE. because they feel so comfortable, so secure, and so proud  to be with the person who loves them unconditionally. So go ahead and practice with your neighbour.

そして、愛していると言うとき、隣の人が満面の笑みを浮かべた、その表情をよく観察してみてください。無条件に自分を愛してくれる人と一緒にいることを、とても心地よく、とても安心し、とても誇りに感じているから、笑みを浮かべるのです。

さあ、隣の人と練習してみましょう。

 

The response of your neighbour speaks to us that the word LOVE is such a powerful and important tool that we can use to create a world of peace. I believe that this peace can reign regardless of our diverse backgrounds.

隣の人の反応は、愛という言葉が、私たちが平和な世界を創造するために使うことができる、いかにパワフルで重要なツールであるか、語っています。この平和は、背景の別なく、皆に訪れるものだと私は信じています。

And May the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob grant us the spirit of love so that we can create the community of love and peace.  AMEN

アブラハムの神、イサクの神、ヤコブの神が、私たちに、愛と平和のコミュニティを築くことのできる、愛の御霊を与えてくださいますように。アーメン
